Surviving Finals Week
December has officially begun and that means finals week is rapidly approaching. Before you start packing your bags and getting ready to enjoy a long winter break, you need to prepare for finals. December can be a stressful time as you struggle to finish projects and papers and study for exams. Here are some helpful tips to guide you through this time.
- Refer back to old tests and quizzes to help you study for finals. Most professors will base the final off previous exams.
- Reread all your notes and material as many times as necessary until you know the subject inside and out. Spend extra time on lessons that you may have struggled with the first time around.
- Mnemonic devices may sound silly when you recite them but they are guaranteed to help you remember important facts.
- Always take a break. After about two hours of studying, step away from the books and spend some time relaxing.
- Eat and sleep well. Studying is exercise for the brain and your body needs proper nourishment and rest. An “all-nighter” may sound like a good idea, but you’ll do worse on the exam if you’re suffering from sleep deprivation.
