Tips from College Tutors: Taking the Test

We’ve already given you some tips on how to prepare and study for the test, but what about some advice while you’re taking the exam? College tutors has you covered with some useful tips.

First and foremost, stay relaxed. If a wave of panic sets in, take a few moments for some deep breathing. When you first receive the test, quickly skim through the entire test so you can properly budget your time. We recommend bringing a watch to the exam so you can pace yourself. Some college tutors believe you should complete the sections with the greatest point value first. I’ve always taken my tests in order, while others I know prefer to do essay questions first. This is a matter of preference and how quickly you believe you can get through each section.

While thinking, your eyes may wander, but try to keep your eyes down and focused on your own work so you don’t appear to be cheating. Read each question carefully and if you need further clarification, don’t hesitate to ask the instructor. If you don’t know an answer, skip it and come back to it later. When you have completed the exam, always look it over to make sure you have answered every question. Try not to change your answers unless you truly believe you have made a mistake. Your first answer is usually the correct one.

Don’t panic if others are finished before you. They may have rushed the test and done poorly. Only focus on your work! Lastly, and most importantly, double check that your name is on the exam.
